New! ACmaxx / i-maxx: The new choice for compact AC axial fans.
Most axial fans of the "compact class" still use the old shaded-pole motor AC technology, despite the very poor efficiency of these motors compared to DC technology. Intelligent fan control and monitoring options are also very limited. Until recently, the main barrier to improvement has been that DC technology could not be operated directly from the AC mains supply. A solution became available with the introduction of the ebm-papst ACmaxx series of compact axial fans.
Featuring the North American Standard Design, the iQ motor is the intelligent solution for commercial refrigeration applications. This EC-motor includes completely integrated electronics, with efficiency of up to 65%!
ebm-papst wins Best of Show Award from AdvancedTCA Summit!
Press Release:
Industry recognition for the Best Infrastructure Product with the S-Force 2200FTD series compact fan
Farmington, CT November 18, 2010 – ebm-papst Inc., the worlds leading manufacturer of fans, blowers, and custom assemblies is proud to announce the acceptance of the award for Best Infrastructure Product at the 2010 Advanced TCA Summit.
The Best of Show Award Program provides an opportunity for industry wide recognition of emerging and leading technologies available on the market. The Best of Show winners from five categories were announced and awarded at the ATCA Summit ceremony November 10th in Santa Clara, CA. “AdvancedTCA is sparking incredible innovation for our next generation of high-performance telecom applications” said Ernie Bergstrom, President of Crystal Cube Consulting and Chairperson of the AdvancedTCA Summit. “We are proud to recognize the achievements of ebm-papst, awarding them with the Best Infrastructure product for the S-Force 2200FTD series compact fan. ebm-papst has designed an outstanding product that will certainly pave the way for the future success of ATCA design and solutions.”
The newly designed extension of our S-Force line, 2200FTD series compact fan produces 30% higher airflow, a 65% higher cooling density and is 27% thinner than comparable 200mm fans currently available on the market. Because the structural dimensions feature a compact flat design, a reliable cooling solution can easily be implemented within AdvancedTCA racks, thus freeing space for additional components. The 2200FTD keeps momentum with the demands placed upon design engineers and AdvancedTCA requirements while maintaining ease of use and reliability through its integrated speed controlled motors designed to minimize the heat dissipation with up to 89% efficiency. Speed-dependent, self-ventilation of the motor guarantee running times of 70,000 hours or more. Additionally, the optimized interior contours of the housing, small gap clearance between the blade and venturi, and winglet technology on blade tips (similar to those used in aviation technology) contribute to a substantial decrease in air turbulence, thus lowering noise level. All of vital importance as the less air turbulence, the higher the possible airflow output. The 2200FTD compact fan exceeds present ATCA system cooling requirements, and they do so quietly and efficiently.

ebm-papst plans acquisition in heating technology area
ebm-papst plans to acquire a portion of a gas valve product group for wall-mounted and floor standing gas boilers from Karl Dungs GmbH & Co KG. Thus the world's leading manufacturer of fans and motors is making another acquisition in the heating engineering area. Hans-Jochen Beilke, Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors of the ebm-papst Group, says: "For us, the planned acquisition is an important step towards our strategic expansion of this market segment."
Dungs is the specialist for gas, safety and control technology and is a supplier to the heating- and process heat industry. The Dungs Group employes over 600 people worldwide. The transfer of the "GasBloc Valve" business area for residential heating technology with rated heat output up to 80kW is to take place in the form of an asset deal.
Says Karl Dungs: "The planned transaction consistently implements the alignment of our strategic direction with the core competencies of Dungs. We are increasing our focus on mechatronic systems in combustion engineering."
The acquisition was initiated by ebm-papst's Landshut subsidiary and plans call for it to be completed soon. "The acquired business will strengthen our position as a system supplier over the long term," comments Stefan Brandl, Managing Director in Landshut. ebm-papst Landshut is a pioneer and innovation leader in the area of household appliances and heaters. The Bavarian location has some 1,000 employees.
Coming Soon RadiCal defines new standards for centrifugal fans.
Now, after the successful market launch of the HyBlade axial fans, the energy-efficient "RadiCal" fans from ebm-papst are defining new standards in the centrifugal field of ventilation and air-conditioning technology.
Like the HyBlades the fan blades of the RadiCal fans are designed with a dimensionally stable, hybrid construction. Their aerodynamically optimized shape reduces noise by 50%. The motors of these fans have been miniaturized, making them much more compact than their predecessors. With these current dimensions, an easy mechanical replacement of existing AC solutions is possible any time and without a hitch.
The design of the motor heat management system is also optimized. The stator is completely encapsulated in a high-performance plastic. Air inlets in the rotor guarantee perfected heat dissipation for the motor, which in turn increases efficiency considerably. The high level of IP protection allows these fans to be implemented in critical applications.
In terms of efficiency, the RadiCal fans already surpass the new EuP Directives for electrically powered fans, which are soon to become legal requirements. With these, up to 50% less energy consumption can be achieved in comparison to AC solutions, with the noise behavior decreased by one-half.
The good dampening behavior of the plastic also helps to reduce noise emissions. Even without special varnish, the impellers are highly corrosion-resistant, for example if exposed to salt water or salty air. Direct solar radiation has no damaging effects on the UV-resistant material.
To reduce the already low installation effort even further, the new fans can be purchased on request as ready-to-install modules. The new centrifugal fans will first be available in sizes 133 to 250 with drive outputs between 35 and 170 W and in size 500 with three different EC motors with drive outputs of 500 W, 1 kW and 3 kW.. This opens up possible applications in many areas of ventilation and air-conditioning technology, such as in control cabinet cooling, in-line duct fans, home ventilation units or heat pumps. In all of these applications, it is pays off to switch to high-efficiency RadiCal fans or to take advantage of this state-of-the-art, energy-saving technology from the start.
An install file for the latest Product Selector Software (PSS) is available from our main webpage ("Support" tab / "Downloads") at http://www.ebmpapst.us/downloads/ Also available is the "Product Selector Overview", a PDF which highlights the main software functions.

The premix-ready gas blower market started in small BTU sizes and it has consistently gotten more powerful, rising from a top of 2.5 million BTUs, to 3 million BTU’s, and now soon-to-be introduced models will reach 4 million BTUs. One new trend in premix-ready gas blowers is an integrated power factor controller that can compensate for voltage fluctuations by delivering constant motor performance within a specified voltage range.
Ebm-papst plans to introduce the MegaWatt blower, model G3G250-MW. It can provide heat outputs up to 1MW or 4-million BTUs. The blower uses a 3-phase brushless DC motor that accepts AC voltage input and then rectifies it inernally to DC voltage. It has a low-voltage speed-control circuit that accepts either PWM or a 0 ~ 10 VAC signal. According to Costello, the MegaWatt is going to be available in two voltage ranges: 200 ~ 240 VAC, and 380 ~ 480 VAC. Both models will feature a power factor controller so the operation of the motor will remain constant regardless of the voltage.
ebm-papst Inc. announces the latest products to extend our popular S-Force generation of fans: the S-Force Radial Blowers. These backward-curved motorized impellers are equipped with a new high-powered motor to reach performance levels not yet seen in the market.
The newly designed LambdaConstant control system is a revolution for combustion blowers in condensing boiler technology. Consisting of an intelligent ebm-papst blower and "LambdaConstant" control unit, it is the first system ever to adjust automatically to optimum combustion even where variable gas types are present.
