ebm-papst was the prize winner of the digitalization initiative "Global Networking Making Production More Efficient" as part of the German 2015 innovation competition "Landmarks in the Land of Ideas". On the subject of "Urban Space. Rural Space. Cyberspace! Innovations for a Digital World", this project in the "Business" category illustrates how production can be controlled using Industry 4.0 software, thus ensuring that production and quality processes have a safer and more efficient design.

Coordinating globally distributed production and testing processes for a portfolio of around 15,000 products is a challenge. The manufacturer of air and drive engineering has used an Industry 4.0 solution to centrally manage its global production since 2009. The overriding software system includes, amongst other things, exact information regarding which production step has already been actuated and which steps are pending. All of the relevant information can be made available to employees at the right time, at the right location, and in the required format. This increases process reliability and efficiency and ensures that production is more resource efficient.ebm-papst also acts as a reference company for the SAP software and advises other companies during their digitalization process.

As part of the competition, the initiative "Germany – Land of Ideas" and Deutsche Bank have presented awards for ideas and projects that make a positive contribution to the design of a networked world and respond to the challenges of the digital revolution.

Dr. Ulrich Schürenkrämer, Chairman of the Regional Southern Board of Directors of the Deutsche Bank, presented the "Landmarks" award to Rainer Hundsdörfer, Chairman of Board of Directors of the ebm-papst Group, during the ebm-papst industry forum in Jagsthausen, Germany. He emphasized that ebm-papst has once again demonstrated the great innovative drive of medium-sized companies in Germany. The new range of software also illustrates the varied and far-reaching chances digitalization can offer the German economy, thus ensuring that Germany is sustainable in the long-term.

Rainer Hundsdörfer was thrilled that ebm-papst has once again been recognized as a "Landmark in the Land of Ideas" and expressed his conviction that their Industry 4.0 project provides a solution for the challenges of the digital revolution.

ebm-papst was also voted in ninth place by the public as part of the Land of Ideas initiative providing them with another reason to celebrate. The fan specialist was voted a top ten favorite, thanks to the huge participation by the general public and staff.
